1/9/2009Merry Meet and Welcome;
Today is Friday January 9th, 2009. The Moon is second quarter, waxing, in Cancer. Tomorrow we will enjoy a Full "Wolf" Moon @ 10:27 PM. This Moon is said to be the closest to the Earth. Today, we are adding the second planet in our series. To enhance the magic of this day, we will feature the planet, Venus.
Friday is the day of Venus. This planet rules the astrological signs of Taurus, and Libra. Venus shines brightly in the night skies, through mid- March. Beginning in April, it will be visible once again in the morning sky. Venus is often referred to as "the Goddess of Beauty", and can be associated with all things pertaining to this. The number for Venus is 7, and the heptagon is the star. Some colors associated with this planet are; green, turquoise, pink. The animals and mythological creatures include; the Lynx, cat, dolphin, tortoise, flamingo, and dove. The fauns, mermaids, and sirens are the mythological creatures. Aphrodite, Freya, Astarte, and Hathor are several of the Goddesses representing the aspects of Venus. The description is "the Great Mother", and rituals of love, fertility, friendship, and pleasure are some of the many. The elemental affinity of Venus is fire. Some symbols would be seashells, the mirror, the garter, to name a few. The apple tree, the pear tree, beech and elder are a few of the trees. Hawthorn, strawberry, vervain, tulip, hibiscus are a few of the plants and herbs of Venus. Copper, and bronze are the metals, some gemstones might include; malachite, emeralds, peridot, jade, and rose quartz. The Empress, and the four 7's are the primary associations of the Tarot related to the planet, Venus.
When we think of this planet, we generally associate it with anything of pleasure. Venus brings out the creativity in us, and it's who we rely on for all affairs of the heart. In my early days in the Craft, Jupiter, was my planet of choice. Abundance, going all out, do it up in a big way. Then, it dawned on me, I was getting alot of what I already had, and needed to go down a different road. That's when Venus brought me to my senses, really. Venus guides us through our five senses, helping us to become aware of what really matters. My favorite expression at work is; " thank God, it's Friday", even if it's really only Monday. Fridays are one of my favorite days of the week, I look forward to the weekend. Once again, I made it through another week of work. This planet has helped me to get in touch with all of the things that mean alot to me. The next time you want to feel good about yourself, tap into your Venus energy.
Be careful of how you utilize her energies, though. Anything done in excess can and does have their drawbacks, as well. One of the thirteen challenging aspects of the tarot, is the seven of Swords; "futility". Even though it is that of a state of the conscious mind, it's an aspect of the self that is wasted. Being too vain to realize that change cannot manifest without your effort. The seven of Cups; and the seven of Disks, are also negative aspects that can inhibit you from attaining what you want. These are examples of the polarity of working with the planets, knowing what the consequences of your workings up-front is important. On the flip-side of the coin, the number 7, is equated with divinity. The three aspects of body, mind, and spirit unified in the four elements. The seven of Wands; "Valour", brings out the best in us. Allowing us to utilize our creativity to the utmost, that's Venus. On that note, I'll end this session on Venus. We are forever in the service of the Lord and the Lady. In love and light.
